General Questions
What is Unfollow?
Unfollow is a privacy-first Instagram follower tracking tool that helps you analyze your followers and unfollowers. All analysis is performed locally in your browser - your data never leaves your device.
How does Unfollow work?
You download your Instagram data export from Instagram, upload it to Unfollow, and we analyze it locally in your browser to show you who follows you, who you follow, who doesn't follow you back, and who you don't follow back.
Is Unfollow free?
Yes! Unfollow is completely free to use. There are no subscription fees, hidden costs, or premium features. We believe everyone should have access to their own Instagram data insights.
Privacy & Security
Is my Instagram data safe?
Absolutely! Your Instagram data is processed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. We never upload, store, or transmit your personal Instagram data to our servers. Once you close the browser, your data is gone.
Do you store my Instagram data?
No, we do not store any of your Instagram data. All analysis happens locally in your browser's memory. We don't have databases or servers that store your personal information.
Can you see my Instagram password or login details?
No, we never ask for or have access to your Instagram login credentials. You download your data directly from Instagram and upload it to our tool - we only see the data you choose to analyze.
What data do you collect about me?
We only collect basic analytics data like page views and user interactions (using tools like Google Analytics). We don't collect any personal Instagram data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How to Use Unfollow
How do I get my Instagram data?
Follow these steps to download your Instagram data:
- Go to Instagram Settings → Privacy → Download your information
- Select 'Some of your information' and choose 'Followers and following'
- Choose JSON format and create download request
- Wait for Instagram to prepare your data (usually 24-48 hours)
- Download the ZIP file when ready
What file formats do you support?
We support ZIP files from Instagram data exports and individual JSON files. Our system automatically detects and processes both followers_1.json and following.json files from your Instagram export.
Why is my following count showing as 0?
This usually happens when your Instagram export doesn't include following data or the file structure is different. Make sure you selected 'Followers and following' when requesting your data from Instagram, and that your ZIP file contains both followers and following information.
Can I analyze multiple Instagram accounts?
You can analyze different Instagram accounts by uploading their respective data exports, but you need to download the data export from each account separately through Instagram's settings.
Technical Questions
What browsers are supported?
Unfollow works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version of your browser for the best experience.
Does Unfollow work on mobile devices?
Yes! Unfollow is fully responsive and works on mobile devices. However, for the best experience when uploading large files, we recommend using a desktop or tablet.
Why is the analysis taking a long time?
Analysis time depends on the size of your follower/following lists and your device's processing power. Large accounts with many followers may take a few seconds to process. All processing happens locally, so it depends on your device's capabilities.
What happens if I refresh the page during analysis?
If you refresh the page, you'll need to upload your data again as nothing is stored on our servers. Make sure to complete your analysis before closing or refreshing the page.
Instagram Policies & Guidelines
Does using Unfollow violate Instagram's terms?
No, Unfollow only analyzes data that Instagram provides to you through their official data export feature. We don't scrape Instagram or access their API - we only work with data you already own.
Can Instagram detect that I used Unfollow?
No, Instagram cannot detect that you used Unfollow because we don't interact with Instagram's systems at all. We only analyze the data export file you download directly from Instagram.
Is it safe to unfollow people based on the results?
Yes, but use good judgment. Instagram data exports show a snapshot in time, so some people who appear to not follow you back might have followed you after your data export was created. We recommend using the results as a guide rather than automatically unfollowing everyone.
Troubleshooting
I'm getting an error when uploading my file. What should I do?
Make sure you're uploading a valid ZIP file from Instagram or a JSON file from your Instagram export. Check that the file isn't corrupted and try refreshing the page before uploading again.
The results don't look right. What could be wrong?
Instagram data exports represent a snapshot in time. If the results seem outdated, your export might be from a while ago. Also, Instagram sometimes structures data differently, which can affect analysis. Try downloading a fresh export from Instagram.
The page is stuck on 'Processing...' - what should I do?
This can happen with very large files or on slower devices. Try refreshing the page and uploading again. If the problem persists, try using a different browser or device with more processing power.
